Learning to swim improves your child's motor skills and creates a fulfilling love for the water.
All our preschool swimmers are grouped into the levels below regarding their ability.
Starfish is the first of five preschool classes on offer. Preschool classes cater for swimmers aged 3-5. Starfish classes have a student to instructor ratio of 3:1 and are based in the learn to swim pool, running for 30 minutes. Parents/caregivers are no longer in the water with their swimmer. As a Starfish, swimmers will focus on becoming confident in the water. They look at safe entries and exits into the pool, learning how to blow bubbles, float aided on their front and back. The core focus at this introduction level is comfort in the water. Starfish classes use a variety of fun activities and games to aid with this feeling of safety, comfort, and fun in the water.
Seahorses is the second of five preschool classes on offer. Preschool classes cater for swimmers aged 3-5. Seahorse classes have a student to instructor ratio of 3:1 and are based in the learn to swim pool, running for 30 minutes. Parents/caregivers are no longer in the water with their swimmer. As a Seahorse, the focus is on creating more independence and confidence in the water. At this level, swimmers will focus on comfortable submersions, independent floating on their front and back, and a basic understanding of kicking will be introduced. Seahorse classes continue to use a variety of fun activities and games to grow the feeling of safety, comfort, and fun as well as independence in the water.
Turtles is the third of five preschool classes on offer. Preschool classes cater for swimmers aged 3-5. Turtles classes have a student to instructor ratio of 3:1 and are based in the learn to swim pool, running for 30 minutes. Parents/caregivers are no longer in the water with their swimmer. As a Turtle, there is an increased focus on swimming. At this level, swimmers learn co-ordination of arms and kicking on front and back. They look at front to back rotation, strong streamline push-off from the wall, and an introduction into sidekick and basic breaststroke arms. As confident independent swimmers this level will see swimmers increasing the distance swam to 2-5m.
Octopus is the fourth of five preschool classes on offer. Preschool classes cater for swimmers aged 3-5. Octopus classes have a student to instructor ratio of 3:1 and are based in the learn to swim pool, running for 30 minutes. Parents/caregivers are no longer in the water with their swimmer. As an Octopus, swimmers are introduced to breathing skills and drills. As confident independent swimmers this level will see swimmers increasing the distance swam to 5-10m. This level aims to see swimmers gain confidence in their backstroke and freestyle swim, adding in their rolling to breath during their freestyle. At this level swimmers will begin the stages to learning a tumble-turn and will be introduced to their dive progressions.
Stingrays is the last of five preschool classes on offer. Preschool classes cater for swimmers aged 3-5. Stingrays classes have a student to instructor ratio of 3:1 and are based in the learn to swim pool, running for 30 minutes. Parents/caregivers are no longer in the water with their swimmer. As a Stingray, swimmers are perfecting their technique and preparing for transition into one of the school-age or mini-squad levels. As confident independent swimmers this level will see swimmers increasing the distance swam to 10-15m. Stingray swimmers will competently swim their backstroke and their freestyle rolling to breathe. Swimmers will begin learning the strokes of butterfly and breaststroke, while also building on the stages of a tumble-turn and attempting a standing dive.
